Description
The conservation and restoration of archaeological sites has been developing more intensively since the beginning of the twentieth century. The conservation interventions carried out in the past have suffered from the passage of time and, while some have acquired a historic character, on numerous occasions, need to be assessed, both due to the ageing of the materials used and to a change in the criteria for action.
There is a need to review the conservation-restoration measures of the past and analyze their results in the medium term, in order to draw empirical conclusions that will help in future decision-making.
The seminar is structured around three thematic axes:
- The first block focuses on the documentation of past restorations.
- In the second block, case studies of interventions on sites with historical restorations will be presented. Issues such as reintegrations of previous restorations or the dilemma of which elements to keep and which to remove will be discussed.
- Finally, the third section will address the problem of restoring previously restored sites. In this respect, the compatibility of the materials used in the past with the original remains and with the products most commonly used today will be debated.
Further details of the programme will be available soon.
