Ubatuba, a nature reserve in Brazil; Rosetta, an Egyptian coastal city; Kerman, part of the Lut desert in Iran; and Kasese, on the outer edge of Uganda’s Rwenzori National Park: these five climate hotspots are the final innovation sites of ICCROM’s cascading capacity-development project, “Net Zero: Heritage for Climate Action.”

At a high-level forum marking the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention, the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment extended its support of the World Heritage Leadership (WHL) Programme, reinforcing its commitment to fostering future leaders of the World Heritage Convention.

This year marks two decades of contributing to the upskilling of new heritage professionals through the ICCROM Internship and Fellows Programme. The two-week ICCROM International Summer School on Communication and Teaching Skills in Conservation and Science, held in Alberta, Canada, wrapped up on 15 July 2022. The Summer School brought together 16 heritage professionals and educators from 12 countries.

The Sustaining Digital Heritage (SDH) programme is ICCROM’s newest initiative and aims to connect knowledge from diverse fields to make technologies accessible for capturing the potential of heritage in the digital realm. The 18 July virtual kick-off of this new initiative was a great success, with more than 500 registrations from 107 countries.
