Submit a case study by 28 February 2023!Send the completed form to: collectionsmatter@gsuite.iccrom.org ICCROM’s Our Collections Matter initiative aims to demonstrate and strengthen the contribution that collections and conservation make to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and empower those working with collections to maximize this impact.
The initiative takes a ‘Triple T’ approach: gathering and producing Tools, supporting Training and including everyone in the Transformation to sustainable conservation practices.
Request for case studies
As part of the ‘Training’ aspect, we are introducing a self-paced, self-directed online course. The course will connect heritage collections and their conservation with the SDGs and demonstrate how collections and their conservation can make concrete contributions to the different spheres of sustainable development. Anyone is welcome to take part in the course, but it will be especially beneficial for those working with collections.
We invite you to submit a case study to potentially be included in the course material and featured on the Our Collections Matter webpage.
Case studies should highlight conservation approaches and innovations that can strengthen conservation and collections’ contribution to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are especially interested in examples that are not ‘business as usual,' but that make a stronger or focused contribution to a particular SDG.
Case studies should reflect the principles of Agenda 2030 and the SDGs: protecting and restoring the natural environment and promoting peace and universal respect for human rights. Case studies that emphasize people’s empowerment, are led by their interests and involve their participation are encouraged.
Anyone working on a particular project/initiative may submit. You should be in a position to provide information on behalf of the project/organization and the involved people/groups.
Aim of case studies
Proposed case studies should aim to:
- Inspire people working with collections about how their work can support sustainable development based on the experience of others;
- Demonstrate the role of conservation (particularly enhanced/new methods and approaches) in making collections accessible, fit for purpose and ready to use for activities that support sustainable development; and
- Promote innovative or emerging conservation practices that contribute to sustainable development.
Presentation in the course and on the Our Collections Matter webpage
The selected case studies will be edited for consistency and presentation for the website and course in consultation with the submitters.
Additional considerations
- We invite one case study per institution/organization.
- Case studies will be selected from a wide geographical spread.
- Case studies do not need to come from big institutions or big projects; we want to demonstrate sustainable development activity at all scales.
- Information provided will only be used for the specified purposes.
- If your case study is selected and included in the Our Collections Matter webpage and/or self-paced course, you may withdraw it at any time.
- ICCROM retains the right not to include case studies.
