Director-General Webber Ndoro and the entire ICCROM team congratulate our collaborator and friend Lazare Eloundou Assomo on his appointment as Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre. He brings a fresh perspective to the role, combined with a wealth of knowledge and experience gained from his more than two decades leading vital projects and programmes in places such as Mali, as well as at the World Heritage Centre, where he was Head of the Africa Unit.
Over the years, we have regularly worked alongside Mr Eloundou Assomo, including on AFRICA 2009, a joint programme of ICCROM, the World Heritage Centre, and CRATerre-ENSAG, and more recently in his capacity as UNESCO’s Director for Culture and Emergencies. We share his firm commitment to protecting and celebrating heritage in all its diversity amid ever growing challenges and look forward to continuing and strengthening our close partnership with the World Heritage Centre, in our role as an Advisory Body to the Convention, as the new Director begins his mandate.
