Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the University of Sharjah has signed a cooperation agreement with the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) to launch the Master's Program in Cultural Heritage Preservation and Management.
The agreement was signed on behalf of ICCROM by its Director General, Dr. Weber Ndoro, and on behalf of the University of Sharjah by its Chancellor Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, in the presence of Mr. Majid Mohammed Al Jarwan, Vice Chancellor for Public Relations, and Dr. Zaki Aslan, Director of ICCROM’s Regional Office in Sharjah, Prof. Esam El-Din Agami, Dean of the Deanship of Quality Assurance, Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation, Dr. Tarek Merabtene, Director of the Office of International Relations, and a number of the University's faculty members.
The program targets heritage specialists from diverse backgrounds in the Arab region, and will consist of two tracks: museum management (movable heritage) and management of cultural heritage sites (immovable heritage).
"This program represents an important milestone for ICCROM in our work to expand access to knowledge in the preservation of cultural heritage," commented Weber Ndoro, Director General of ICCROM. "This initiative is unique in that it is multidisciplinary and regionally focused, and will promote meaningful exchange within the Arab region and beyond."
Commenting on the new master's program, Prof. Humaid Majool Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, expressed his joy in signing this agreement, which allows the university to be a vital participant in the Master’s Programme in Cultural Heritage Preservation Management. This programme, he continued, gained the interest of many students and is one of the many academy programmes the university offers reaching 107 this year in various disciplines and academic levels.
The agreement also calls for full cooperation between the parties in providing the necessary support to this program, including faculty, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, practical training facilities, advertising and promotion of the program internally and externally.
