Today, we welcome officials from the Ministries of Culture of various African Union Member States, who are participants in the 4th African Union Commission Course, organized by the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, with support from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Initiatives like this course play a vital role in advancing our shared mission of safeguarding cultural heritage through cross-sectoral and international collaboration – a core principle of ICCROM’s work.

The visit underscored our collective responsibility to protect heritage, highlighting the importance of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and coordinated efforts to maximize our impact.

Since the 1980s, ICCROM has prioritized the African continent in its programming, a commitment that has only deepened over time. We continue to support Africa’s cultural heritage through capacity-building, field projects, and strategic partnerships. Our flagship programme, Youth.Heritage.Africa, exemplifies this commitment by pioneering technical and vocational training that empowers young heritage practitioners and entrepreneurs, blending traditional knowledge with modern tools.

“I would like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to the distinguished representatives of the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage. Our partnership is invaluable. We greatly benefit from the shared expertise and mutual learning in crisis response over the years, and I look forward to exploring new opportunities for joint initiatives,” remarked ICCROM’s Director-General during the visit.

Following the presentation, the group toured ICCROM's library and archives.
