In a first for Catalonia, 25 museum professionals from some of the main institutions and networks responsible for preventive conservation in the region have been trained in the RE-ORG Method, working together to reorganize storage at the Víctor Balaguer Library Museum in Vilanova i la Geltrú. In just five days, the group managed to move around 5 000 pieces across eight rooms, securing these collections for the future.
The workshop was organized by the Catalonian Department of Culture in collaboration with Barcelona Provincial Council (Diputació de Barcelona) and will help participants improve storage at their own museums, as well as collaborate on RE-ORG projects throughout the region, in line with the Government of Catalonia’s Museums 2030 plan.
Participants were from:
- Diputació de Barcelona (Network of Local Museums)
- ICUB (museums of the city of Barcelona)
- Catalan Cultural Heritage Agency (museums of the Generalitat de Catalunya)
- Territorial networks of museums in Girona, Lleida and Aran, Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre
- Thematic networks of museums of archaeology, natural sciences, ethnology, history and monuments; and
- the Territorial System of Science and Technology.
ICCROM’s Gaël de Guichen, one of the creators of RE-ORG, led the workshop, assisted by Benoit de Tapol from the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC) and M. José Gràcia from the Center for the Restoration of Movable Property in Catalonia (CRBMC). It ran from 13 to 17 December 2021.
