The ICCROM Library is providing a constantly growing set of Open Access resources in conservation through its catalogue interface. These include papers from the most recent ICOM CC triennial meetings, 2011-2017, as well as a multitude of scholarly and peer-reviewed research journals, all freely available at no charge under Open Access.
On 24 January, a delegation from Moldova headed by Dr Andrei Chistol, Secretary of State, Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, visited ICCROM.
ICCROM’s Director-General, Dr Webber Ndoro, led an ICCROM team at a Conference of European Ministers of Culture from 20 – 22 January in Davos, Switzerland. The conference took place just before the annual World Economic Forum in Davos.
On 19 January, Mr Tom Duffy, Chargé d'Affaires, and Ms Sandrine Goffard, Political/Economic Officer, Alternate Permanent Representative, of the U.S. Mission to United Nations Agencies in Rome, visited ICCROM.
On Thursday 7 December, the 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage was launched at the European Culture Forum in Milan, Italy. The European Year of Cultural Heritage will put the spotlight on Europe's wealth of cultural heritage, showcasing its role in fostering a shared sense of identity and building the future of Europe.
ICCROM and its ICCROM-ATHAR Regional Conservation Centre are launching a new books series on cultural heritage conservation in the Arab Region. Selected Readings from ICCROM-ATHAR will provide a wide range of literature for both professional and academic audiences, aimed at promoting dialogue and debate, and bridging existing gaps in available knowledge resources.
ICCROM partnered with the Directorate General of Antiquities (DGA) in Lebanon and the Getty Foundation to organize a four-week field school for the Conservation of Mosaics at the Archaeological Site of Byblos, Lebanon.
ICCROM is pleased to announce the re-adhesion of Hungary as a Member State. The return of Hungary brings the number of ICCROM Member States to 136.
Dr Webber Ndoro has been confirmed by ICCROM’s 30th General Assembly as the new Director-General, to lead ICCROM over the next six years. Ndoro completed a BA in History at the University of Zimbabwe in 1982, a Master of Philosophy in Archaeology in 1987 from Cambridge University, and a Master in Architectural Conservation from York University. The 30th General Assembly of ICCROM will be the occasion for a Thematic Discussion on reconstruction of destroyed or damage historic cities entitled ‘Post-Conflict Reconstruction – Recovery and Community Involvement’, based on the symposium held at Louvre Lens in January 2017.
