UNESCO and the Advisory Bodies to the World Heritage Committee – ICCROM, ICOMOS and IUCN – together with the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH) – are pleased to announce the release of the Arabic version of the “Enhancing Our Heritage Toolkit 2.0”.
First launched in 2023, the Toolkit offers a World Heritage-specific methodology for assessing the effectiveness of management systems across cultural, natural, and mixed World Heritage sites. This newly translated edition aims to expand access and usability of the Toolkit among Arabic-speaking heritage professionals and institutions, further strengthening efforts to protect our shared heritage.
The Toolkit is a globally tested self-assessment methodology designed to help World Heritage managers and actors evaluate how well a World Heritage property or other heritage place is being managed, particularly in terms of maintaining its heritage values and determining how effective the management system is. It supports site managers in identifying improvements in the understanding of the heritage place, including its governance arrangements, management processes, and resource allocation, and it is especially useful when reviewing or updating management plans.
The Arabic translation marks an important step in ensuring wider access to this critical resource, supporting site managers, heritage management institutions, and communities in managing heritage effectively.
We would like to thank ARC-WH for their valuable contributions to the translation of the Toolkit into Arabic and for the long collaboration in capacity-building in the Arab States region.
EoH 2.0 is the result of collaborative efforts between the ICCROM-IUCN World Heritage Leadership (WHL) programme, UNESCO and ICOMOS, with the generous support of the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment.
