Rafoogari – Reviving the Dying Art of Rafoo
The purpose of this project was to help women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds learn the craft of darning to provide them with an opportunity to work in a dignified working environment while reviving the traditional art of rafoogari, thus bridging the gap between the community and the rafoogars and integrating them into the society. They will also contribute to the longevity of the rafoogari art by documenting the process of rafoogari and making a glossary of the techniques of darning and stitches.
The project targets women from lower-income groups and works with the rafoogars, or darners, and the local Textile Conservation Studio.
