ICCROM-Sharjah, in partnership with the Arab Administrative Development Organization of the League of Arab States, organized a four-day workshop on Conservation of Documentary Heritage in the period between 4 to 7 March 2019 in Sharjah, UAE.
The workshop was attended by professionals in the field of documentary heritage from the UAE, Egypt, Palestine and Lebanon, where the significance of this type of heritage was highlighted along with its values, history as well as the national and individual memory that these documents carry.
Mr. Ian Wilson, Former ICA President and Advisor to the Director General of National Archives in the UAE who worked with UNESCO's Memory of the World program, delivered the keynote speech of the workshop on efforts to preserve documentary heritage in the Arab region.
The workshop aimed to familiarize participants with the various types of documentary cultural heritage and to discuss the challenges facing its conservation. It also addressed modern techniques in digital archiving and showcased some successful experiences in this field in the Arab region.
