The first RE-ORG workshop in Spain was held in December 2019 at the Victor Balaguer Library-Museum in Vilanova i la Geltru in Catalonia. It was conducted in the framework of the preventive conservation strategy developed by the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya for 2018-2021, which in particular, aims at improving storage areas of the 114 museums in Catalonia. In this context, in November 2019, the Generalitat de Catalunya entered into a collaboration agreement with ICCROM to develop the RE-ORG method in Catalonia's museums.
The Centre for the Restoration of Artefacts of Catalonia (CRBMC) and the Servei de Museus are responsible for leading this strategy and disseminating the RE-ORG method and tools among the Catalan museums to improve the quality of their storages.
This first 2-week workshop was organized by the CRBMC and the Servei de Museus, with the collaboration of the Diputación de Barcelona and the National Art Museum of Catalonia. Twenty museum professionals from 4 different provinces (Girona, Tarragona, Lleida and Barcelona) were trained to become RE-ORG “mentors” or “coaches”, and carry out storage reorganization throughout the territory following the RE-ORG method. Among the participants were also professionals from the 4 museums that will implement the method in 2020-21.
The objective is to carry out by 2021, at least 2 RE-ORG workshops and a series of actions to improve the storages in at least 10 museums in the territory.
