This past week, ICCROM has been in Davos, Switzerland, to endorse the importance of Baukultur. On 16 January 2023, we signed the Founding Act of the Davos Baukultur Alliance at the 2nd Conference of European Ministers of Culture, committing to the objectives and principles set out in the Davos Declaration 2018. The conference, chaired by the President of the Swiss Confederation, Mr Alain Berset, was held from 14 to 16 January 2023 in the lead-up to the 2023 World Economic Forum.

Baukultur “puts culture centre stage in order to achieve sustainable and vibrant communities with better quality of life and wellbeing for all.”

Davos Alliance 2023 L-R: Mr Benoît Dubosson, Mr Oliver Martin and Mr Zaki Aslan.

At the conference, Zaki Aslan, Director of the ICCROM Sharjah Regional Office, met with Benoît Dubosson, Head of the Advice and Expertise Unit (Cultural Heritage), Swiss Federal Office of Culture, and Member of ICCROM Council, and Oliver Martin, Head of Baukultur Section, Swiss Federal Office of Culture, and former ICCROM Council Chairperson.

ICCROM believes in Baukultur. We're committed to working with our partners worldwide to promote Baukultur principles – through education and capacity building. Holistic and scientific approaches are necessary for the future of the cultural heritage field.

Thank you, Mr Berset and the Swiss Federal Office of Culture, for involving us in the 2nd Conference of European Ministers of Culture. We are proud to be part of the Davos Alliance and continue supporting Baukultur through ICCROM activities.
