It is with great pleasure that ICCROM announces the launch of its website in Spanish. This will allow us to communicate more effectively with – and provide better support to – our Spanish-speaking Member States, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). This highly-anticipated translation of the website has become a reality thanks to the generous support of the Cultural Heritage Institute of Spain (Instituto del Patrimonio Cultural de España - IPCE), Ministry of Culture and Sports.
By having our website in Spanish, we aim to increase our engagement with Spanish-speaking Member States, and improve the delivery of our content to the conservation community in the LAC region and beyond. This will include promoting and disseminating ideas, knowledge and information on worldwide and regional conservation activities, including events and training opportunities, as well as publications and didactic tools on topics addressed by ICCROM’s programmes.
The Spanish-speaking community is already one of our main audiences, especially on social media. Followers on our social networks will benefit greatly by having more content in Spanish, as we will be able to disseminate ICCROM news to them in their language.
This website is also a milestone within ICCROM’s new programme for the LAC region. The programme will focus on strategies and methodologies for disaster risk management, and will promote more sustainable approaches for heritage management and planning. Its aims are to further develop both human and institutional capacities, fostering collaboration among sectors, and between conservation professionals and local communities, as well as involving the wider public. The website in Spanish will provide an excellent channel to disseminate meaningful contents and tools, and therefore to strengthen the programme’s impact.
Adding to the other four languages already available, we are confident that this new website in Spanish will make a strong contribution to promoting and improving the conservation of our shared cultural heritage worldwide!
