ICCROM and Ibermuseos publish a Guide to Risk Management for Museological Heritage in Spanish and Portuguese
ICCROM and the Ibermuseos Program are launching the Spanish and Portuguese adaptation of A Guide to Risk Management of Cultural Heritage, originally published in English and Arabic by ICCROM and the Canadian Conservation Institute. Adapted specifically for museums, this new guidebook is the first step in a fruitful collaboration between the two organizations which will provide a series of tools, documents and research for the preservation, conservation and management of cultural heritage in the Ibero-American region.
Illustrated with images and examples, the Guide presents the “ABC method” to address the various risks that can affect museum collections. It provides inputs for mitigation plans and enables heritage professionals to prioritize actions. This resource will support professionals and institutions in the care of their collections, as well as the planning and implementation of policies for long-term conservation and security.
The translation into Spanish and Portuguese is a contribution on the part of the Ibermuseos Program to museums in Ibero-American countries. The aim is to broaden their access to vital knowledge resources which will help them identify and evaluate risks.
These translations are part of the activities of the “Support Line for Museological Heritage in Risk Situations" of the Ibermuseos Program, and were supported by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID). The original English and Arabic versions were produced by the ICCROM-ATHAR Regional Conservation Centre in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
