On 18 of March, ICCROM held its first virtual information meeting for the Rome-based representatives of its Member States. This came from a desire to enhance engagement with its Member States and inform local embassies of ICCROM’s work.
The meeting started with welcoming remarks by Director-General, Webber Ndoro, followed by presentations that gave a glimpse of ICCROM’s programmes and activities in relation to its three Strategic Directions:
- Focusing on World Concerns for Cultural Heritage - delivered by Valerie Magar, Manager of the Programmes Unit
- Creating a Diverse and Inclusive Global Network - delivered by Zaki Aslan, Director of the ICCROM-Sharjah Regional Office
- Strengthening and Transforming ICCROM - delivered by Joseph King, Director of the Partnership and Communication Unit

This was followed by a Q&A session, where delegates had a chance to take the floor. Speakers expressed their appreciation for this first Member States Information Meeting, and indicated their desire for a stronger collaboration with ICCROM in the future.
This event was the first of its kind for ICCROM, but will certainly not be the last. In fact, it was suggested to hold similar meetings annually, and there will also be regional and thematic information meetings in the future. ICCROM would like to thank the delegates and guests who attended the meeting representing 79 of ICCROM’s Member States and permanent observer. During these uncertain and challenging times, we are committed more than ever to supporting our communities and serving our Member States and partners.
