ICCROM and TOBUNKEN have long organized the International Course on Conservation of Japanese Paper (JPC), offering traditional Japanese conservation techniques dealing with Japanese paper, to contribute to the global exchange of conservation practices. This year’s course will be the first virtual rendition of the JPC, which, pre-pandemic, was held in Japan. The JPC organization team is tackling the challenge of transitioning the course to a digital format, in addition to facing other contemporary issues in paper conservation, including the treatment of modern materials and the adaptation of paper conservation to evolving technology. With these issues in mind, we will hold an evaluation seminar in September 2022 in order to improve the programme for future courses. The meeting will gather former participants to share their experiences applying and disseminating the knowledge and techniques gained from JPC.
