Description

Historic cities are rich cultural resources that have evolved over time through a sustained relationship to their territory and social fabric that have been the source of tangible and intangible heritage and traditional knowledge systems connecting people, nature and culture. However development pressures, uncontrolled tourism, disasters including those that are triggered by climate change as well as conflicts have made historic cities more vulnerable than ever before. These challenges call for mainstreaming of heritage in urban planning and development rather than mere preservation of the historic fabric taking into consideration projections of urban growth, social, economic and environmental changes.  The webinar “Towards integrated management of historic cities: challenges and opportunities” organized as part of ICCROM Lecture Series aims to bring forward key considerations for such an approach and lessons learnt from good practices in urban heritage management.
