In this survey, a total of 89 job announcements published between 2008-2013 on two major international platforms (the ICCROM website and the Conservation DistList) were analysed to identify the employment conditions offered; the type and location of hiring institutions; and the academic qualifications and experience requested.
Of the vacancy announcements surveyed, museums were the largest employer accounting for 54% of vacancies, the vast majority of which were at mid career level (70%), with only 11% of positions offered at entry level. Of particular concern was the fact that the majority of positions were offered on a temporary basis of less than 5 years (51%), while only 8% were advertised as permanent.
