This virtual seminar aims to provide participants with a short introduction to corrosion science. Corrosion as a chemical process will be introduced very simply, initially considering dry corrosion (better known as oxidation), then quickly moving on to wet (or “electrochemical”) corrosion of metals. Theoretical aspects will be illustrated by reference to a number of corrosion case studies, some of which are taken from engineering contexts, others which are readily encountered in everyday life.
