MSc Cultural Heritage Futures at the University of Edinburgh

We’re excited to introduce the MSc Cultural Heritage Futures—a bold, interdisciplinary programme at the University of Edinburgh designed to equip the next generation of heritage professionals to lead with creativity, purpose, and innovation. Offered through the Edinburgh Futures Institute, this future-facing degree reimagines the role of cultural heritage in addressing some of today’s most pressing global challenges—from social justice to environmental sustainability.

Grounded in a critical understanding of heritage as a dynamic and evolving process, the programme explores how communities engage with the past to create meaning in the present. Students will gain advanced knowledge of heritage theory, policy, and practice, along with digital and co-creative skills that enable them to work across sectors and borders. With a strong emphasis on decolonial thinking and a truly global outlook, the MSc draws on diverse case studies from across the world.

Teaching is led by a unique team of academic experts in collaboration with leading heritage organisations in Scotland, the UK, and internationally. Students will benefit from immersive learning in the Edinburgh Futures Institute’s collaborative spaces, engaging in hands-on projects that bring together data, design, and critical reflection.

Join us to shape a heritage sector that’s ready for the future—socially conscious, globally connected, and creatively empowered.
