General description of the project
ICCROM Records and Archives Office is responsible for all aspects of ICCROM records keeping, ranging from measures to ensure that ICCROM officials systematically create standardized records in the course of their duties through the management of records in ICCROM offices (including the Regional Office in Sharjah-UAE), to preserving and making records of permanent value accessible as ICCROM archives.
Over the years, ICCROM Archives have increased their assets with institutional records and donations. Currently, the Archives are composed of approximately 1.000 linear meters of documents, including paper records, more than 300.000 photographs, 1.000 audiovisuals, 5.000 architectural drawings, posters, over 5.000 heritage samples, and didactic collections. On the other hand, the Digital Archive is currently composed of institutional records and digitized analogue records, totalling approximately 50 TB.
Key Deliverables and Tasks
The primary objective of this role is to assist ICCROM in managing and developing the records and archives. Under the supervision of the Records and Archives Manager, the consultant will:
Assist in records management tasks, including maintenance and long-term preservation of records.
Support the transfer, appraisal, and disposition of records, following ICCROM’s records classification scheme and disposal schedule.
Assist in archival projects for arrangement, description, re-housing, digitization, preservation, and accessibility of archival fonds and special collections.
Provide reference service to users, including responding to requests and carrying out research activities.
Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the records and archives needs.
Required qualifications:
Education
University degree, certificate at an equivalent level, or Master's degree in Records and Archives Studies.
Work experience
- Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience in the field of Records and Archives, preferably in an Intergovernmental Organization.
Skills and knowledge
Good knowledge of main databases and other electronic management tools used in the field of records and archives.
Good knowledge of preventive conservation principles applied to the long-term preservation of archival collections.
Knowledge of digital preservation principles and strategies.
Results-focused, good organizational and communication skills.
Good organization, analysis, and reporting skills.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of ICCROM. This position requires fluency in English (both oral and written). Knowledge of French or any other language is an added advantage.
