The IFLA - Preservation and Conservation Section would like to announce the following event: "In the event of a disaster: floods"
In August 2023, Slovenia experienced its most devastating natural disaster, affecting two-thirds of the country's territory. The floods caused significant damage to cultural heritage, impacting libraries, numerous archives, museums, and galleries.
Obtaining relevant information at critical moments is crucial when rescuing lives and addressing other consequences. In cooperation with the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), we would like to invite you to the webinar titled "In the event of a natural disaster: floods". Esteemed speakers, including Celine Allain from the National Library of France, Maria Luisa Russo from the University of Hamburg, Elena Pianea (Director of Cultural and Heritage Libraries in Tuscany region), Petra Vavrova from the National Library of the Czech Republic, and Tiago Cesar da Silva from the National Archives of Brazil will share important insights on flood risk preparedness and effective actions during and after a flood. Claire McGuire, IFLA Policy and Research Officer, will discuss the key information needed for disaster assessment by the international community, from the perspective of cooperation with UNESCO.
The webinar will take place on Tuesday, 6 February 2024 at 9 AM (CET). Participation is free of charge. Registrations are accepted here.
