Who should apply?
This workshop may be for you if:
- you have already used the RE-ORG method to implement a RE-ORG project, and/or
- you want to partner with someone who has practical RE-ORG experience to organize a RE-ORG training activity and/or
- you advise or deliver training to heritage institutions on preventive conservation.
Learning objectives
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to
- remotely design and develop a RE-ORG training activity based on a case study;
- provide recommendations to institutions wishing to undertake a RE-ORG project; and
- effectively apply coaching skills (leadership, time management, project management, problem solving and communication) to lead and advise heritage institutions on their storage needs.
What to expect
Over a period of two months, this workshop will consist of one activity per week, including the following:
- interactive and activity-based course sessions,
- discussions in between course sessions to allow participants to obtain additional support and guidance from facilitators and
- presentations to an international panel or a group of stakeholders.
Participants will work in small teams to propose a training activity for a case study of a real museum and will also develop and present their own project (consult the “How to apply” section). On average, participants should expect to spend up to three hours per week working on their projects and attending sessions.
Benefits of attending this workshop
- Improve your ability to apply RE-ORG skills to an even wider range of challenges and situations.
- Develop a range of transferable skills (leadership, teamwork, training, project management and problem-solving).
- Strengthen your network with other heritage institutions and professionals across Canada and abroad.
- Contribute to and take part in the broader RE-ORG International effort, led by ICCROM and its partners around the world.
- Obtain a completion certificate signed by the partners upon completing all workshop activities.
How to apply
-
Please submit the completed application form by August 2, 2022.
- You can apply as an individual or in teams of two:
- The primary applicant must have practical experience with the RE-ORG method (experience in reorganizing a storage area using RE-ORG resources). This applicant could be a former RE-ORG participant, someone who worked on a RE-ORG project as an intern or contractor, or someone who used the method on their own without having taken RE-ORG training.
- The secondary applicant can be an advisor, an educator or trainer, staff from an institution with a collection that could host a RE-ORG training activity (museums, galleries, libraries, archives, cultural centres) or staff from an organization that could organize a workshop (museum associations or networks, other professional associations, etc.).
- Each application must include an idea for a “home” project. The home project is the way in which you will apply what you learn. You do not need to have a fully developed project when you apply, but you will be working on this as part of the workshop, and you will present a proposal to a panel at the end of the workshop. Examples of home projects can be organizing a RE-ORG workshop benefiting several professionals, coordinating a storage reorganization in an institution with a larger team, developing a regional or national training strategy or offering RE-ORG coaching for other institutions.
Selection criteria
- Prior practical RE-ORG experience (required for at least one applicant if applying in teams of two).
- Strength of the home project idea (impact, feasibility, need).
- Home projects that benefit and/or involve Indigenous or other equity-deserving groups* are particularly encouraged.
- Preference will be given to Canadian citizens, but a few spots are reserved for international participants.
*Equity-deserving groups are those that identify barriers to equal access, opportunities and resources due to disadvantage and discrimination based on age, ethnicity, disability, economic status, gender, nationality, race, sexual orientation and transgender status.
